I've Decided to change this blog of mine into more of a guys interest type of blog, rather then focusing only on gaming, i want it to focus on a little bit of everything. although gaming will still be a big focus, even though i obviously haven't posted all that much yet anyway. i plan to start with a bunch of top 10s of 2008 to get people to see my interests and likes to get to know my style a bit better.
here is what there is to come in the next few weeks of top 10s:
Sexiest Women in Entertainment
Movies
Songs
Moments Good/Bad
TV Shows
Affordable cars
A side not as moments will probably be last of all of them because there can still be a few big moments that can happen like i don't know, the Detroit Lions making History! Sexiest Women is already done, just gotta do some finalizing of my selection. Also if i can think of anything more to add to my list, i will update this post

Game of the Year 2008
Now i don't like to choose just one game for this honor, i pick the top 10 games of the year and rank them accordingly. Obviously number 1 is better then number 10 in my opinion, however they are all worthy of this honor. i like to look at many different factors when deciding games of the year, like fun factor, content, longevity, depth, innovation, etc.
1. Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots (PS3)

I chose this as number one because it excels in every single area. amazing story, amazing graphics, amazing gameplay. this could be argued to be more of a movie and a game, i think it just takes the best of both worlds and makes one kick ass game. now usually i wouldn't like to put a sequel here because they tend to be too similar to the one before them or too confusing for a newcomer to understand. the gameplay is similar to older MGS's but it is tweaked tremendously, and those changes really change the gameplay a lot from previous titles. Now MGS is definitely known for having some confusing story, and a newcomer would have a tough time keeping up. i never really played the ones before it, and i kept up fine enough. in Konami's defense they did release MGS 1-3 right before MGS4, not to mention they gave that preorder DVD with a nice recap, and lastly they released the timeline story thing over PSN. They did more then i could have asked for.
2. Fallout 3 (PS3, 360, PC)

This game is pretty much oblivion with guns in a post apocalyptic Washington DC. Oblivion is my favorite game of all time so it is pretty obvious why i would deem this game worthy of the number 2 slot. although this is number 3, i never played either of the others, nor did i have trouble following it. also the fact that it is number 3 is irrelevant because it is completely changed from the past fallouts.
3. Dead Space (PS3, 360, PC)

The surprise new IP of the year. This Bioshock meets resident evil in space, wasn't even on my radar at the beginning of the year. luckily i noticed this survival horror soon before it came out and got it. not only is it fun to play, but it creates an erie type of atmosphere evident in the best horror games.
4. Resistance 2 (PS3)

Quite possibly the most underrated franchise of this generation, Resistance 2 not only lived up to its originals greatness, it exceeded expectations. not only is there a full singleplayer, that is amazing i might add, there is also a 8 player coop mode and 60 player online. truly the full package here in this one. i still don't know why this hasn't hit full mainstream yet though, any true halo fan would welcome this formula since it feels much like halo, at that mostly like halo one, which was my favorite.
5. Lost Odyssey (360)

This game just has a great story and that epic rpg feel that very few games have these days. any fan of final fantasy X will feel welcome here. not only is the world huge and fun to explore there is also thousand years of dreams part which adds a nice touch. only catch is there stories in the 1000 years of dreams have to be read, but in no way does it hinder them. with over 40 hours of gameplay, and fun turn based battles that are still fun to play through over and over, this one is the best Japanese rpg on the 360 with honors (cause every other jrpg isnt all that good).
6. Call of Duty: World at War (PS3, 360, PC)

The most controversial of the top six, this is because it is pretty much just like last years call of duty 4, but set in world war 2 instead of modern warfare. the thing is-is that it is such a good formula, the fact that it was ported over to world war 2 again gave it that extra kick. also the addition of 4 player coop and nazi zombies mode, which is its own game in itself, made this one worthy of the top six.
7. Fable 2 (360)

The first fable was a good action rpg, it lacked in that open feel though. things changed this time around in fable 2. the world feels big and open, the world is fun to explore and look at, and there is much to do within the confines of the world. although the games main story is a bit on the short side, the game is enjoyable from start to finish. i would rather 10 hours of greatness the whole way then 20 hours with boring grinding in the middle .
8. Grand Theft Auto 4 (PS3, 360, PC)

Not only does this game have a fun and interesting story to it, there is also a fun 16 player online component to it. the city is huge and highly detailed, modelled after new york very well. i sometimes felt like i was driving through new york. gta is still the king of sandbox games, and for good reason.
9. De Blob (Wii)

The Wii had a slow year when it comes to quality games, however there is always that weird one of the bunch, and de blob is it. Set in a world where all the color has been taken, it is your task to fix it. this game is fun and innovative, a fresh new experience in a world of gaming dominated by shooters.
10. Devil May Cry 4 (PS3, 360, PC)

This fun and fast paced action game, was not without its flaws, but it was just plain fun to play. that is why i give it the last spot. Maybe because i have never played much of the ones before it, but it was a fresh game in wake of all the other action games that came out this year.
Honorable Mentions:
Gears of War 2: a good game, but it lacked in the multiplayer department as well as innovation from the first. i felt like i was just playing a expansion pack to gears one, than playing gears 2.
LittleBigPlanet: This game was definitely deserving of a top 10 spot, the only problems is i did not find it to be all that fun. it felt uninspiring compared to other platformers on the market and ended up losing the fun factor very fast, yet i will acknowledge is is a very good game, just not according to my tastes.
Left 4 Dead: in wake of all the other games this fall i did not have the money to buy this one, but i must still acknowledge any zombie game. the demo was decent, but still didn't feel like top 10 material.
Valkyrie Chronicles: pretty much the same thing as left 4 dead except without the zombie part. this strategy game reminded me of a console advance wars, and tons of fun to play.
Prince of Persia: perhaps the best looking game of the year, it lacked in difficulty. at times i felt like the game was playing for me. the combat was also a weak addition. Overall a fun game, but not a top 10 game.

Game of the Year Awards 2008
Here are my Game of the Year Awards for 08, i chose the one that i thought deserved the top spot, as well as the other games that deserve the award too, but i could only choose one. I am also working on my Overall Games of the year, for that i do not choose just one game, i choose ten and attempt to rank them in a tentative order, i have decided on 8 so far, still looking over all the games this year to decide on the last 2 slots. I will post that in the coming weeks, along with a few thoughts on each game and why i ranked it in the top games of the year. obviously many of the games you see in many categories here will probably make the cut, but not necessarily. my list consists mainly of PS3 and 360 games, but i also consider Wii Games too, it was kind of a slow year for the Wii though.
